Manhattan School of Music instituted its groundbreaking distance learning program — the first of its kind at a major conservatory — devoted to exploring the use of state-of-the-art videoconference technology for music education and performance in 1996 . Since inception, the program has connected students, educators, and distinguished artists around the globe for teaching and learning exchanges and currently reaches over 1750 students each year from Albuquerque to New Zealand.
